We aren't really as special as the author seems to think.  Anyone who pays attention knows that many animal species use language.  It is only the complexity of it that separates us from the others.

(BTW, I agree that we seem to have a Neanderthal for president, but I'm not so sure he proves that his species can actually communicate.)
