@N'Gai, its great to see people who's jobs literally entail studying the industry give us their take on how things are.

I agree on your statement Microsoft is built on quicksand. With little in-house studios and everyone's prediction including Pachter's that third-party exclusives becoming more rare in the coming years, in house development is going to be the distinguishing factor.

It seems Microsoft opted for the short term gains and didn't have the long term foresight; ironically just like their hardware with their haste to bring the Xbox 360 out to the market when clearly it was not ready with cited 33% or 1 in 3 failure rate.

Sony on the other hand, really has the long-term plan down pat with great internal studio infrastructure.

@imaballa: Glad you're enjoying Bonus Round--it's a terrific show.

As for my remarks about the Gears of War franchise, it was an estimation of things to come. My understanding is that Epic Games owns the IP, while Microsoft's deal for the first Gears of War included the rights to one sequel, which would be Gears of War II. I may have overstated the case--Microsoft could still negotiate a new deal with Epic to secure exclusivity for Gears of War III--but it's reasonable to assume that Epic will get publishing offers from several big third party publishers like Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard and Take-Two.

With the PS3 sure to have a larger installed base in three to four years when Gears of War III is set to ship, I have a hard time believing that Epic would forego the revenue that a multiplatform release would offer them. That's my thinking.

@perrinbar,

I think Miyamoto does not really come up with the ideas he has groups come up with several ideas and he decides which one to go with. I wouldn't be surprised if the team that came up with the Mario Galaxy idea wasn't a fan of Ratchet & Clank considering its huge success on the PS2.

@N'Gai,

I just watched the new PT2 bonus round with you on there, great Bonus Round by far one of my favorite. I found something you said curious near the end "We pretty much know Gears of War 3 is coming out on PS3." Was that a estimation of things to come, or a slip up meaning to say God of War 3?
