Off to the airport

Mike Powell

It’s the morning of the last day of the Olympics and I’m getting ready to hit the road and go home. As much as we’ve all looked forward to this moment there’s always a feeling that something important is over. Regardless of the trials and tribulations of the last two weeks, I’ve enjoyed the Beijing Games. Although it has felt like a rather sterile Games with the events and media being kept within the Olympic bubble I can’t fault the volunteers that have helped us do our jobs everyday and made us feel welcome.

I’ve put a selection of my work together here, it’s still too soon to do a proper edit and only time will tell if this work stands up. I’ve found I need a little space from the event to edit work without the emotion of the day. Thanks for following along and sending me e-mails with your comments. They were all appreciated.

Cheers,
Mike

It's been just great sharing the Olympics with you guys.  Where do we sign up for the email notice of the next time Newsweek send the three of you somewhere?

Moving.  Honest.  Beautiful.

Kudos to the "Dream Team", Simon Barnett, and everybody at Newsweek.

I can't tell you how much fun I have had watching these Olympic Games.  I wouldn't have gotten into it nearly as much had it not been for the blog of the Newsweek photographers.  They made me feel like I was there, like I was a part of it.  (And that is saying a lot since I live in a podunk town in Texas!)

I would watch an event and then wonder what kind of shots they each got, what angle they were shooting from, would they be different.  Mike, you never let me down!  The best part was hearing your perspective and your take on each event.

I know this was kinda a new thing, but take it from one person who bookmarked and religiously checked this blog every hour during the day, I have never been more excited and looked forward to anything than I have these games and living vicariously through three amazing photographers!  Hats off to Mike, Donald and Vincent...and to Newsweek!  Job well done!
