How many confrontations does the Bush-Cheney team (aka The GREAT MISTAKE) wish to impose upon the fighting and dying young military men and women of America? Why should America's finest have to do the dirty work of the international oil companies seeking to get control of Asia's oil, natural gas, and energy transit routes, when these corporations will then sell this energy to the highest bidder, primarily the U.S.'s economic competitors and strategic adversaries? Talk about dying for an unworthy cause.
Why does this warmongering GREAT MISTAKE keep intimidating and disrespecting Russia, and essentially forcing them into a military response?
On top of everything, does this GREAT MISTAKE not remember the Cuban Missile Crisis and the frightening lessons learned about strategic confrontation?
WHO ATTACKED FIRST?

PUTINS RUSSIA!
Cheney has indeed some explaining to do: why he encouraged Georgia to attack South Ossetia. And why he even refused to support to support a Security Council resolution that asked all parties to renounce violence - a resolution that would have provided Georgia with a convenient excuse to stop before the Russian counterattack. And he has to explain his rethorics about Russian the counterattack being excessive: in fact such a punishing expedition inside Georgia proper was the only option open to Russia to discourage Saakashvili from more military adventures.
I am just curious, why noone here does not ask a question: "Who attacked first?", and "Who supported them?". Instead everyone now cries "Russia is bad, it tryies to take over the world". What you expect that when Giorgians in the first hours killed Russian peackeepers, Russian should say - go ahead, kill us all? People please be critical of what media - any media gives you and use your own brain.
Many commentators have said that the Caucasus is not worth going to war over. This immediately begs the question of what is worth going to war over – Ukraine? Moldova? All Eastern Europe? History should have taught European countries at least that appeasement does not work. Based on Russian history Russia will continue to attack its neighbours until it is stopped by outside force or internal conflict.
To anyone who has followed Russia’s rhetoric and actions in recent years it is no surprise that Russia is using its piecekeepers to keep pieces of Georgia for itself. The only questions the Russian invasion of Georgia posed were „Who is next?“ and „When?“ Historically Russia has never let go of territories its military has gained control over without internal armed conflict or the threat of war from strong neighbours. Since the West will help Georgia with nothing but words, South Ossetia and Abkhazia are lost until the next fall of the Russian empire.
Cheney is a bizzaro King Maidas; everything he touches turns not into gold but into...
I cannot believe each day the ignorance the Republicans are, and even their ignorant comment posters here. The article references Chaney's stupidity that the Bush administration has exhibited throughout this insane 8 years, especially this Macho talk that they all use that has been very bad for the USA and the entire world! In this article Mr. Cohen quoted Mr. Chaney as telling Georgia "you will not travel it alone" when clearly they had to. This is similar to what Bush one did with Iraq when he promised the Kurds and others that when they rose up against Saddam, we would help them. Yeah right wingnuts, they got slaughtered just like the Georgians! Just keep doing everything without thinking. Keep acting like macho aholes, and our country will go down the tubes., as we already went down the toilet!
The only thing that Cheney did right was to shot his friend on the infamous hunting trip, otherwise Cheney is a massive piece of Disaster, Trouble follows him even to the Toilet.
This man is the Living Ghost, a trouble in waiting !!!
Dear Mr. Cohen,
Mr. Cheney is NOT the one that has "some explaining to do". It is Russia who has to explain their cofrontational choice to reassert its authority over Georgia. Are you suggesting that the U.S. should not support the Georgians as they try to build a free and democratic Georgia? Or are you suggesting that we should go to war against Russia to show our support? I wonder what choice Mr. Obama would make for Georgia. So much for his naive "borderless" world!
While Mr Cheney is traveling, he could spare one day and stop in Serbia to declare his support for their 'territorial integrity'.
That is the only way to reverse the Georgian situation - cancel the 'independence' of Kosovo and Russia will have to do the same in Georgia.
