I am always fascinated (too concerned to be amused) by Millennialists ... especially the large majority who are otherwise intelligent, well educated members of society. I have known many, having grown up in rural West Tennessee. I still know a few, but frankly I long ago reached the point of being unable to tolerate their intolerance (try that for an oxymoron). The peculiar thing is, that when asked to justify much of what they believe, they reference concepts which are actually not a part of the Christian Bible (which was set down from many works by the Roman Church at the Council of Nicea), but rather are contained in the notes from the Scofield Reference Bible, (by the way, good reverend Scofield was divorced) , which give 'interpretations' in order to 'help the reader understand' better the teachings of the book. Every age has a group who are convinced that the world will end in their lifetime. The solution is simple. This gives them a way to believe that will not have to physically die, but rather be 'raptured'. I have a news-flash. Every other group in history to have believed this, and they are countless .. are all .... dead. Sorry folks.
You guys confuse me. Luther thought the pope was the anti-christ, WWII folks thought Hitler was the anti-christ, and I thought Sarah Palin was the antichrist (but she turned out to be just a pretty redneck). Now it's Obama, but all he seems to do is miss the boat on issues. What's a guy to do with such a central issue? I guess we'll just have to keep our eyes open.
Windwalker states: "Obama is for things that God is not!!!!! Abortion THOU SHALT NOT KILL and Homosexuality IS AN ABOMINATION TO GOD - That is just the facts." Actually, these are not the facts at all but, rather, distorted and self-serving interpretations of biblical passages taken out of context. The problem with trying to have a discussion with 'believers' of this ilk is they are spiritual and intellectual shape-shifters. They tout the necessity of 'embracing the Bible in its entirety' when it suits their purpose but revert to out of context misquotes when it suits them. As one who has prayed twice each day for the past 25 years, I feel that my faith is second to none - especially folks who sling cherry-picked dogma in their Sunday best. Like their current messiah-in-chief, Dubyah, they have missed every opportunity to gain awareness and understanding about those with opposing views. Look where their 'groupthink' has led us.
When an overzealous North Carolina pastor excommunicated members of his church for supporting the Democratic candidate in 2004, 'the Uniter' could have come out and said, "Thanks, but that's not the kind of support we need" yet he remained curiously silent. When faced with an easily identified flying object last week in Iraq, rather than making light about it 'looking like a size 10', a more intellectually curious 'Decider' might have seized the opportunity to talk with the man and actually learn something about what people like him are angry about.
In her equally unbalanced rant, Danielita assails the 'shameless...liberal double-standard' and laments Sarah Palin's email account being hacked and death threats against Bush while overlooking the fact that the same things happened to Obama, his website, and mobile phone records. Talk about double standards! I guess it only counts as noteworthy when it happens to your pet candidate. How are we ever going to heal the divide in this country if folks on both sides move toward reconciliation? How about we agree to meet somewhere in the middle...such as reality.
Let me see, George W. Bush could be called Hitler, a monster, a genocidal warmonger. Several movies were made about his assassination. T-shirts were sold with the image of a gun pointing to his head. An Irishwoman who won the Nobel Peace Prize said on tv that she was against the death penalty but would make an exception in the case of Bush. On PBS commentators joked about killing Bush.
Sarah Palin was hung in effigy on Halloween. Her private e-mail was hacked. Her church was recenlty bombed - (there were women and children inside).
Did liberals had anything to say about that? Nope, just people exercising their right of free speech.
But hey, don't touch Obama. Ah! The liberal double-standard in shameless.
Yes the bible instructs us to pray for leaders and those in authority but that does not mean that we agree with their beliefs at all!! Obama is for things that God is not!!!!! Abortion THOU SHALT NOT KILL and Homosexuality IS AN ABOMINATION TO GOD -
That is just the facts.
How can we stand holding a united states flag with bloody hands from killing millions of babies and allowing gays to marry and be able to say GOD BLESS AMERICA - wont happen my friend -
This nation was blessed a long time ago, now this nation has decided " I GOT THIS" we dont need God to help us, we will vote in a man that is for killing babies and allowing abominations to God to continue -
Its all part of the end times, who knows Obama may usher in the Anti-Christ, its all part of the evil plan -
But God does offer the solution in HIS word:
IF MY PEOPLE THAT ARE CALLED BY MY NAME WILL HUMBLE THEMSEVLES AND PRAY,THEN I WILL HEAR FROM THEM AND HEAL THEIR LAND - (NOT QUOTED EXACTLY TO THE WORD)
Simple!! But its easier to do what immoraly wrong.
God have mercy on every single person in this day and time -
Everyone be ready because the return of Jesus Christ is so soon - and this nation is on the brink of Judgement!!!!
vote4tom - you're an idiot. And I meant "slander", not "libel" - check your dictionary. Who did I mean by "incompetent old fool" and "ignorant bimbo"? I meant McCaIN and Palin - if the majority of the people in the U.S. thought they were so great, they'd ge the President and Vice President Elect now, which they're not. You can call me dumb if you want. I'm not, but I'm considering the source. Your entire point of view is ludicrous and beyond belief. Just what exactly are the "anti-Christ characteristics" that Obama supposedly has? And I'm also interested to know which ones he does't have. Also, please tell us all where you got all your vast knowledge of "anti-Christ characteristics", and don't say "the Bible". I know the Bible quite well, and there are no "characteristics" described of the anti-Christ. Satan is described in more detail, but the anti-Christ is not Satan. I will end by repeating that I consider it the height of being "anti-Christian" to cast such aspersions upon a fine man as Barrack Obama. Why don't you turn off Fox and join us here in the real world, where we are pleased and very grateful that in a few short weeks, our country will be led by President Obama?
I would hate to think that Army Wife speaks for all military on the subject of President Elect Obama. There are many of us in the military, and some of us are also faithful Christians, who are excited about the possibilities of the next administration. (Among active duty troops, it is estimated that 8-1 they supported Obama over McCain in contributions) After 8 years of an administration that has been disastrous, and whose plan to go to war was objected to by churches representing more than 2/3 of all Christians on earth, we have a man coming in who can think, can speak coherently, and who is selecting a team of people with experience and judgment to help him lead. This is such a refreshing change. Perhaps VP Cheney will remain in his "undisclosed location" forever.
The question of the end times has been debated among Jesus followers since before Paul started writing to the Thessalonians (if you remember, the issue in 1 Thess is twofold: what about those who have already died in the faith. What will happen to them? And, what about those who were spending all their times sitting and waiting for the second coming and did not help support the community?) For more than 100 generations, Christians have been waiting for the end. Waiting for the second coming of Christ is part of the faith, at least as far as those who accept the Apostles and Nicene Creeds believe.
The problem is how to read the bible on the subject. Contrary to some of our "the end of the world is coming next week" preachers, the bible on the subject of prophecy does not resolve so easily. Aside from the distinction between prophetic and apocolyptic material, there is the problem of interpretation. (read up on the end of the first millennium; people were in a panic about the end of the world. And remember Y2K? Working in a bookstore, I can't tell you how many people wrote the world is ending books.
I have a suggestion: Let's stop trying to figure out who is or is not the antiChrist and when the end of the world is coming, like Jesus taught us to, and lets treat every day as if it is our last, and resolve to spend it helping our brother. Instead of trying to decipher Daniel and Revelation, try reading the Gospel, several times. Jesus is pretty clear there how Christians are to live. And then, let us pray for our leaders, for they are agents of God in keeping peace in the world. Obama is a man who speaks to many of hope and the future; what a great message.
Antichrist? Oh, I thought that was Nero Caesar.
I do not understand any train of thought or discourse that even begins to imply that Barack Obama is the Antichrist. Barack Obama is the first man to be elected president in over a quarter century who actually seems to possess a shrewd combination of intellectualism and common sense; and he intends to use this deft combination of wits for the good of the majority of the American people.
If McCain had been elected, his plan to end the current financial crisis would surely have been to give more sweeping tax cuts to corporations and the wealthy (Yes, you are wealthy if you make $200,000 per year. You just poor-mouth because you live beyond your means even on that salary.) instead of investing any type of deficit spending in job creation, infrastructure, and alternative energy,
These are investments that will offer all of America a return instead of giving the big dawgs who would have gotten a McCain tax break another vacation home or yacht.
Those of you looking for Obama to sprout horns and hooves had better thank your lucky stars (and your God) that John McCain sealed his own fate by choosing Sarah Palin as a running mate.
lindanne:
I hesitate to call anyone dumb, especially someone I have not met, but your post definitely qualifies as one of the dumbest I have read in quite some time. And given some of the remarks found here, that is saying something! Where to begin?
"Is Obama the Anti-Christ? To quote him: 'That is above my pay grade.' What I do know he is has Anti-Christ characteristics that frighten me."
"Then to use Obama's quote "That is above my pay grade" to imply that that was his answer to whether or not he was the anti-Christ is slanderous."
First, the word you are looking for is libelous, not slanderous, just to be clear. Please tell everyone reading this where I ever said that Obama's answer relating to "life" of the unborn was HIS answer to a question about him being the anti-Christ? For that matter, point to anything I wrote that implies Obama was ever asked such a question? I did not. THAT is libelous, not anything I wrote. Like Obama, I was trying to be cute by quoting the absurd answer he gave about the life of the unborn. That you missed that point does not surprise me, I suppose, given everything else you wrote.
"To imply that winning an election against an incompetent old fool & some ignorant bimbo from Alaska is an example of how world domination is obtained is laughable."
Who said the above? Certainly I did not. Who is this "incompetent old fool" you are talking about? Who is the "ignorant bimbo?" Who suggested anywhere that winning an election in Alaska was a precursor to world domination? May I respectfully suggest that you stop smoking that crack pipe before you write such utter nonsense!
lindanne you are a prime example of a line from a movie: "If you are having trouble keeping up it is better not to say anything at all."
Dian-
Why do you think you can't consider something a sin and still love the person who's done it?
Also, are you actually arguing that "God must condone homosexuality because he let it exist in his world" ??
Right. I suppose he condones AIDS too. And he condones it when babies who die of spina bifida. And child rapists. And cancer. And alcoholism... drug addiction.
Yep. He must condone all that because he let it happen.
'Bout the lamest argument ever.
Again, such ugliness when there is a disagreement in viewpoint. I pointed to Obama's plans for socializing this nation as have many leaders prior to him. Taking what I have earned and giving it to those who have earned nothing is socialism no matter how it is packaged. Then we can discuss his plans for a "National Police Force falling under Homeland Security" (and yes he did state this during his campaign) that is trained the same as the military. Last I checked that takes away the sovereignty of the states which is why the Active Duty Army does not participate in internal "policing" that is a job for the states and National Guard not the federal Government. There are many examples of his socialist views. These are only a few. As for corruption...starting with his ties to terrorists and ending with the mess chicago is in now. Of course he claims to have never discussed who would take his senate seat with the Gov. But his own press secretary stated to the press that they had many lengthy discussions on the topic, until he realized he had contradicted Obama and then said OOOPS, I made a mistake, they really did not have talks about it. Lies. One after another, but the media is just as corrupt as he is. Time will tell.
I am done for tonight. Thanks for an entertaining debate.
Thank you for reporting the anti-Christ scenario. Near the end of the PA Democratic primary last spring my cousin and i (we are Move-On members) were discussing the wild unsubstantiated claims and "revelations" of the "anti-Obamaites." Well acquainted with end time prophecies, (our grandmother held those beliefs) we wondered when the "anti-Christ" idea would surface, as it seemed so perfect for the anti-Obama situation. Now I read that the "religious" right did not disappoint us and have latched on to this idea. So sad. We were hoping we wouldn't be prophets. It's just too easy.
Tom~Thank you for your words and rational discussion. God bless you and your son, and please thank him for his service. My husband returned less than a week ago after being gone for 15 months. I chuckle to read so many of these posts, people can insult my moral right wing conservative Christian viewpoints as often as they like, it is my husband and your son that will defend their right to say do so. IF YOU CAN READ, THANK A TEACHER. IF YOU CAN WRITE THANK A TEACHER. IF YOU CAN DO BOTH FREELY WITHOUT FEAR FOR YOUR LIFE....THANK MY HUSBAND...A SOLDIER! God bless and have a good evening!
These posts, including but not limited to "babyboom" and "vote4tom", are so bizarre that reading them is almost like reading some strange parody or satire. "Obama is the downfall of America. Corruption follow him and has for years". "Christians should fear what Obama represents. He is the epitome of deception and gives us much more than a glimpse of just how the Anti-Christ will gain world domination. Is Obama the Anti-Christ? To quote him: 'That is above my pay grade.' What I do know he is has Anti-Christ characteristics that frighten me." I know there are people in this country who believe this absolute and total garbage; I just didn't know they read ordinary, mainstream magazines. To state that corruption has followed Obama for many years is an asinine statement with nothing stated to back it up. "Christians should fear what Obama represents" - what exactly is that? I'm a Christian and I'd like to know. Then to use Obama's quote "That is above my pay grade" to imply that that was his answer to whether or not he was the anti-Christ is slanderous. That was his response to when life begins. To imply that winning an election against an incompetent old fool & some ignorant bimbo from Alaska is an example of how world domination is obtained is laughable. To compare our next President to Hitler is reprehensible. From the very outset of his political career, Hitler preached a compaign of hatred. Who has Obama ever said he hated?
We as a country are damn lucky to have Barrack Obama as our next President. I have a really good idea - to all of you who are so disappointed that he won and so afraid of him being the anti-Christ, why don't you move to Alaska? That way you can be way out of sight of the rest of us and there's plenty of wide open spaces to shout your non-sense into the vast air. (An additional bonus - YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE RUSSIA!!)
And lastly, to those of you who claim to be Christians, I suggest you take a hard look at yourselves with respect to the Eighth Commandment: "Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor". The slanderous vomit coming from you makes me think maybe YOU'RE the anti-Christ!
conservative army wife:
Our support may not vary as much as you think. I am a soldiers father. My son is a US Marine serving in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq, as we speak.
I find all of these pro-Obama supporters less than credible for many reasons, but foremost among them is that one of them, elsewhere, called for the death of my son by a roadside bomb in Iraq when he disagreed with my point of view and was unable to articulate a rational alternative argument. It is much like the poster below calling himself "Pro Choice Voter." He attacks everything Christians believe, calling the Bible "fiction." People like that are all for choice, so long as the "choice" is to agree with their point of view. Should you disagree, well, you are insane, an extremist, or any one of many names they have come up with.
The article was very interesting. I beleive that Obama is the downfall of America, Corruption follows him and has for years. The latest is the Governor of Chicago and the mess of corruption following the vacant Senate seat by Obama. The article also states why the gay marriage bill failed. I think their are still many narrow minded people who think its a sin and not in the bible. I ask you-who will it hurt if two people of the same sex get married? Remember that God loves every living being and forgives. I know God forgives all the cult followers of Obama as well. Have a nice day.
AMEN!!
Very well said Tom. My support varies slightly as I am a soldiers wife. I will support my country and my president because it is my duty as the wife of an American soldier. If he is indeed ushering in the rapture or the coming of our Lord then so be it, I am that much closer to going Home! I believe that even evil will be used for the good of the Lord and in the end every knee will bow before Him. My worry is for my children that have live through these last days in such a polluted society. I pray for them as I pray for our country and our president, whoever he may be.
dianlarkin wrote:
"Obama will be a great President so long as some KKK "Christian" evil-doer or a Christian-for-hate-and-the-end-of-humanity such as yourself does not try to murder him."
"what is certainly a sin is judgment such as yours as to who the sinners are -- particularly when such judgments result in treating an entire group of American citizens as less-than-American-cicitzens."
To further quote dianlarkin: "You should be ashamed of yourself."
For the record, while I did not vote for President-Elect Obama and do not support the socialist proposals he made during his campaign for President, it is my sincere hope and desire that he will, indeed, be a great President. I suspect that my definition of what will qualify him as a great President are quite different than that of dianlarkin, nonetheless, it is still my hope that he will be such. President-Elect Obama will be my President, once he takes the oath of office, and as an American citizen I will sustain him in his position. Clearly, based on your words here, you cannot say the same as it relates to current President George W. Bush, who you clearly feel nothing but hatred for. The very idea that you would accuse me, or "people like me" of wanting to murder the President-Elect is beyond contempt. You cannot justify a wanton, immoral act simply because you believe it is connected to a higher purpose. So who is the Christian and who is pretending to be, dianlarkin?
jazzbaby, let me try this one more time. I did not think I could have been any more clear, but obviously I was wrong. Christians should fear the anti-Christ because he/she will deceive many of them and they will blindly follow him/her. Should the elderly not fear the con artist out to steal their life's savings through deception? Likewise, a Christian, who by their name is a follower of VChrist, should fear being deceived by someone who is anti-Christ. I don't understand why this is such a difficult concept to grasp?
dianlarkin, you are the epitomy of why Obama is so dangerous. For the record, he has not spent a single, solitary day as President and you have already declared him to be "a great President." I rest my case.
"The idea that God will wantonly destroy the world that God created and continues to love so much is as ridiculous and evil."
Actually, you know what is really ridiculous? That you, and others like you, believe that man, not God, will destroy what God created (see Global warming) and that God will allow man to do so.
As to your discussion of a chosen few? I can only assume you were talking about someone else's post since I made no mention of God "liking only a chosen few."
And dianlarkin, you peace-loving nut you: Obama won! You can lay off of Governor Palin now. For the record: She has remained faithful to one man for many years now. Has raised her family as best she could. Ran successfully for city council. Ran successfully for mayor. Was appointed to the Energy Commission in this country's largest energy producing state. She successfully ran for her own party's nomination for governor, defeating the corrupt incumbent governor. She then successfully ran for governor and gained enough attention in that job to be nominated by her Party for vice-President of the United States. What exactly have YOU ever done? You can continue to try and denigrate her all you want, but when you have achieved 1/10th as much as she has, your criticism of her "might" be worth listening to.
hmelser -- oh aren't you the clever one with the old love the sin hate the sinner -- or is it love the sinner hate the sin? no matter one can always spot a blindly religious fanatic (and fanaticism is never good) by the cliches they spout, which sound sort of ok on the surface but on any level of analysis do not make sense.
It is NOT POSSIBLE to "respect" someone or be their "friend" and call them "sinner" at the same time
And guess what else hmelser -- you're in America now -- in America we have equal rights for all -- sinners like homosexuals and saints such as yourself get to share all the rights equally.
It is my personal opinon that homosexuality is not a "sin" -- it is in fact expression of the way God sent homosexuals to earth -- my own opinion aside however, what is certainly a sin is judgment such as yours as to who the sinners are -- particularly when such judgments result in treating an entire group of American citizens as less-than-American-cicitzens.
You should be ashamed of yourself. I say this with all due respect but I mean it quite sincerely.
dianlarkin...wow...that is the most white washed Christian nonsense I have ever heard! Where in scripture does it say that you can live your life however you want because "one has to be truly of evil intention to fail to "make it" into heaven and all are welcome"? Right wing fanatics are not the only people God likes. God loves all of his people, but He has also clearly warned us that He is the way the truth and the light and none may get to heaven except through His son Jesus Christ. So unless you have a personal relationship with the Lord, I would be worried. And just look at it this way...if I am wrong what does it hurt, we all go to heaven, if you are wrong, eternity in a lake of fire sounds a lot worse than "I told you so". As for the Anti-Christ, I do not believe that Obama is necessarily the anti-christ, but I do believe he is going to lead to the downfall of what is left of the moral conscience in our country. I believe him to be a false prophet and a liar, a prelude to the rapture and the rise of the anti christ. And I do not want any of his "benefits". I earned what I have. I do not believe in a socialist society. It didnt work for Stalin or Hitler what makes Obama any different?
Jazzbaby thank you so much for your comment both humorous and insightful
Hi tom, I didn't bring up any person in relation to an identity of the anti-christ. I was just questioning why a devout Christian would fear the anti-christ? I kinda go by the Book, where it sorta informs us that NONE of us will know when or who. There's no implications to identity on my part, unlike the first post you made. I just find it interesting that a devout Christian would fear the anti-christ.
CelestialOtter well said
Vote4tom with all due respect you will benefit as much as anyone in America, as much as anyone in the world, from Obama's Presidency. Obama will be a great President so long as some KKK "Christian" evil-doer or a Christian-for-hate-and-the-end-of-humanity such as yourself does not try to kmurder him. Obama is already working hard for you -- harder in less than a month than Bush did in 8 years -- you're welcome.
The idea that God will wantonly destroy the world that God created and continues to love so much is as ridiculous and evil and the idea that God only likes and accepts a chosen few. one has to be truly of evil intention to fail to "make it" into heaven and all are welcome -- right wing fanatics are NOT the only people God likes.
I might just start reading Newsweek. I love the open-minded exploration of a somewhat off-beat idea here. A couple things: first off, please, lighten up, everyone gets to have an opinion: god, no god, goddess, whatever -- the ideas should not threaten us. They're ideas. What crazy people do because of the ideas is a different matter. The stories our species has made up over the last ten millenia or so are beautiful and terrible and enlightening. Its all good. Now... My brother-in-law and his family seriously believe that Obama is the anti-christ. Some of them cook absolutely delicious meals -- they're good people -- just terribly ignorant. Needless to say, we keep conversation pretty much about the kids and the weather. I just want to thank Lisa for doing the piece and the response. Maybe next time I see a Newsweek, I'll buy it.
Not for nothing but if anyone is the anti-Christ it is right-wing fundamentalists like Sarah Palin who would ban books and pervert our constitution to withhold rights from American citizens.
It is interesting, jazzbaby, how you attempted to turn this on me, albeit unsuccessfully, I did not say I feared the anti-Christ, rather, I said I was frightened by Obama, stating "how easily so many have been fooled by him." Are you saying Obama is the anti-Christ? I certainly did not. I said "Christians should fear what Obama represents.".
If you had actually read the words I wrote without inserting your own personal bias you would have also understood that I explained "why" Christians should fear Obama. The anti-Christ, whoever that person is or will be (I did not say it is Obama only that his rise to power gives us a glimpse of how so many will be fooled), will fool even the most faithful. Even the "elect" will be fooled by his clever ways. That being true, faithful Christians should fear the anti-Christ because, sadly, many of them will blindly follow him/her without realizing what they have done, much as they have done with Obama.
It was a nice try, jazzbaby, but unfortunately my actual words are right there for all to see so you have only fooled yourself.
I appreciate your additional response here, because I disagreed (and still do) with your comment in the article that those who believe Obama is the antichrist are "not insane." I believe they are. It's just as if they believed he was Voldemort, or some other fictional character in a book. I believe the bible is largely fiction. Many others do as well. You should have at least acknowledged the atheist viewpoint. You should have disclosed that you subscribe to a Christian viewpoint and therefore, don't think it's insame to suggest that Obama might be the antichrist. Stating that this view is not insane, period, as a fact and not a matter of opinion, was inappropriate in my opinion.
I would think, vote4tom, that being a devout Christian would make you estatic at the appearance of the anti-christ. I mean, after all, isn't this what you have been waiting for? The rapture is upon you, so what would you have to fear? Unless, of course, there are some skeletons in your closet that may cause you some reason for worry...
Blind Messianic-Like Adulation for Obama Portends Possibility of Anti-Christ
Understand, I am not saying Barack Obama is the Anti-Christ. What I am saying is that this willingness by people to excuse every unscrupulous detail of his past, to overlook his obvious inexperience, to characterize each and every flip-flop as "growth," to ignore clear lies, and to refuse to demand clarity from him on issues he sidesteps, gives us a glimpse of how so many will be fooled by the eventual appearance of the Anti-Christ. Now the President-elect, we see world leaders uniting in their support for a man that, thus far, has done absolutely nothing! He is the President-elect, not the President, but Time Magazine is already drawing comparisons to Abraham Lincoln and F.D.R. Are you kidding me!
As a devout Christian, I have always had difficulty understanding how it is that the emissary of evil, Satan's hand-picked servant for the ultimate worldwide deception, would be able to fool so many on the scale that is predicted for the end of days. We got a glimpse of this with Adolph Hitler, but he was the leader of a single country bent on world domination so was far easier to expose and oppose. Even so, for many years, leaders of the free world looked the other way as Hitler invaded his neighbors, both fearing him and the loss of peace and prosperity in their own countries. This could never happen in modern times, we say, because of the advent of television and now the internet. And then there came Barack Obama.
Obama has come onto the scene virtually out of nowhere. The questions about him and his shady past are very well known, but dismissed as trivial. Anyone wanting to discuss his associations is quickly labeled racist. Without a single, credible Republican making any reference to Obama's race, nonetheless, he gave a speech claiming that "they will say he doesn't look like all those other guys on the dollar bill" and his loyal supporters just accepted it. Even now political pundits are asking what type of Presidency will be the Obama Presidency, stating that we know absolutely nothing about him. That’s right, we know nothing, and that is true because the Press refused to properly vet him.
In the month of September alone he raised 150 million dollars, he claims from ordinary citizens, all the while claiming ordinary citizens are hurting. Of course, he says this is a more of a tribute to the level of support they have for him and less a reflection of the actual financial situation in the country. Nothing he says or does touches him in any negative way. The Press are entitling him and they made his election a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Obama drew record crowds everywhere he went. Ironically, in Germany he drew more than 200,000 supporters early in the race. Following that he drew a record US crowd of 150,000. From the early stages of his campaign, supporters have been so taken with his charisma that they actually fainted during rallies.
Obama himself at a fundraising roast repeated the oft used allusion to the Messiah, joking that he was "not born in a manger." It was a roast, to be sure, but has anyone in our history ever been referred to or thought of in such terms? No, not until Obama.
Every unscrupulous tie to this man is excused as "someone I barely knew." Just yesterday we heard the President-Elect deny that he ever talked to the soon to be ex-Governor of Illinois about who should replace him. Shortly thereafter FoxNews releases a video of his top campaign adviser being interviewed two weeks earlier where he states, unequivocably, that Obama had extensive discussions with the Illinois Governor about who should replace him. Oops! The spokeperson mis-spoke, we are now told. It never happened. Everyone just accepts this clear untruth as an "honest mistake," Come on! If this had been George W. Bush the "vast right wing consipracy" theorists would be calling for his impeachment. Obama speaks what is clearly a lie and it is excused, again.
Even the impending Obama Presidency and absolute Democrat rule has Anti-Christ overtones. Obama, Pelosi, and Reid: The Trinity of liberalism. Obama the slick and oh so smooth leader; Pelosi, the San Francisco liberal without any common sense who yields power without thought to consequences, thus, the perfect stooge for Obama; and Reid, so partisan that even those in his own Party dislike him and his vitriol. Not the "axis of evil,' but the Trinity of Evil.
Christians should fear what Obama represents. He is the epitome of deception and gives us much more than a glimpse of just how the Anti-Christ will gain world domination. Is Obama the Anti-Christ? To quote him: "That is above my pay grade." What I do know he is has Anti-Christ characteristics that frighten me. But what really frightens me is how easily so many have been fooled by him. I now understand how the Anti-Christ, whoever he/she is, will be able to deceive the faithful so easily. Beware and be scared because a black cloud is overhead.
The faster we get to a secular society the better. Hopefully a time will come when reason and logic win out over superstitions and mythology . We are still being ruled by "magical thinkers" and their "space god'. C'mon!!
I "pray" for the day that Zeus and Thor join forces to rain down a torrent of thunder bolts and fire upon the non believers...those that have strayed from the "truth".
"Mythology" is what we call someone else's religion”. Joseph Campbell
I do not consider myself an "ultra Christian conservative," only a believer and a subsriber, via a gift of a relative, to Newsweek. I am totally at odds with the column written by Lisa Miller on the view of gay marriage. So, don't assume thta everyone responding with comments are on the "far right." There are many "middle of the road" Christians who recognize homosexuality as a sin while personally recognizing and respecting our friends and colleagues who are classified as "gays."
Unfortunate tabloid headline, unworthy of newsweek -- but news (to some) none-the-less. There are those waiting for the second coming and Aramageddon, but be more afraid of those who feel called to push it forward by human means. I suspect this is some of what was behind our current war(s) - a desire to ignite world war three (some believe it is fortold). How do we assure ourselves that those who govern us do not have a priority interest in 'fullfilling scripture' (themselves) vs. doing what is best to maintain peace? Some people strongly believe that the end of the United States is part of end time prophesies. The religous voices of reason need to speak more loudly!
I have cancelled my subscription to Newsweek because of this column. During 8 years of the Bush administration, why didn't the "columnist" ever notice that George Bush, who began an unjustified war in the middle East and who encouraged the money changers to destroy the world's economy, might have a few traits in common with the Anti-Christ? Why did she write an entire column without citing anyone of intelligence that might note that the notion of an Anti-Christ was possibly poppycock? Where were her editors when the readers needed them?
Presidents, Preachers, Pastors, Prophets, Priests, Popes and Potentates from all parts of the planet from times past, present and future please provide proof of your power and present your positions regarding this post. For all of you are now subject to the rampant speculation of anyone with an axe to grind even though I have to my satisfaction already proven that Ronald Wilson Reagan was the anti-Christ. But...
For a moment let's forget the anti-Christ and focus on his opposite the antiantichrist or as in english a double negative usually makes a positive, lets focus on Jesus Christ and what he'd have to say about the arguement the Barak is the Beast. As I read through the comments I noticed as did Kurt Soller that the vast majority of responces to Lisa Miller's article kept calling believers in the prophecy nuts, crazy, insane or some other derivative of the Biblical term for the same idea. The tem in the Bible is "fool."
Clearly, those who would dare go that route are not qualified to comment as to the veracity of a believer's belief and much less qualified judge a believer at all. Jesus clearly states in the book of Matthew that the punishment for calling someone "crazy" is much worse than that even for murder. (Matthew 5:21-22). Whereas the punishment for murder is judgement by "the council." The punishment for calling someone "a fool." is hellfire. Read it and weep or read it and rejoice as the case may be.
But let's not rely on Jesus for this arguement as some will want to call it a circular arguement. (personally for me those are the best as you can't beat them. They are self-sufficient needing no outside source of verification and any true tautology in my opinion will beat inductive, deductive or any other known form of reasoning everytime). I will instead of quoting the Bible use the DSM IV as best as I can recall from my brief study of delusions, schizophrenia and schizo-affective disorders.
According to the DSM IV, the psychiatrist's Bible, from which they make their diagnoses, for something to be a delusion it has to have no real basis in fact. Here is where you atheists agnostics, and miscreants belonging to the devil himself have failed to meet even the Satanic tests of the shrinks. According to the DSM IV within any given society there are certain beliefs that while seemingly strange to the outsider are part and parcel of the given society. The example of the DSM IV is this. Certain societies believe in apparitions of Mary the blessed mother. Within those societies seers of these visions are not scorned but often deified. Another example of a belief that has caused Christians much concern of late also deals with virgins. 70 virgins to be exact. Islamic Jihadist men often say that they are willing to die for the promise of 70 virgins after they die when they get to Paradise. Say what you will say about this belief, call it crazy, believe in it if you do, kill yourself if you think its worth it but don't call it crazy if you believe in Jesus. Whatever you do. unless it is really drastic won't matter and no Psychiatrist who knows his DSM IV and who is not willing to lose his license could ever give a practicing Muslim a diagnosis of being delusional based on this belief alone.
Now to bring it on home to myself using another virginal reference. My name is Gregory GOrDon. And I believe myself to be "second Christ." Even though I am entitled to my beliefs as a man, as an American and as a believer in Jesus Christ and the Bible. Because I believed Ronald Reagan to be the anti-Christ and was willing to act upon that belief I cosequently became a danger to him. And as such often recieved the "Diagnosis du Jour." It ranged from Schizophrenia to Megalomania and included everything in between.
And just as some of the Islamic faith are willing to die for 70 virgins. God chose to trump that offer for the living Christ and promise him not one, not seven, nor even seven times seven, but rather 144,000 virginal men, for his use. "These are they which are not defiled of women, being firstfruits unto God and the Lamb." (Revelation 14:1-5) If I'm lying, I'm dying. But I'm not, so I have nothing and noone to fear. except God.
Because I took the time to write this I am sure that some may now be saying this guy really is nuts, antagonizing as it may seem on the face of it not only Muslims, but Christians and Gay bashers alike. Let those who know what this means verify its truth. You are not my judge. As Tupac said: "Only God can judge me now." So, in the end the only ones I need fear are those who want to play God. Thus totally ruling out those whom most "so-called Christians" would most like to see me condemn, condemning anyone who'd dare condemn me and sentencing those who would call me a fool to hell.
And here is the two-edged sword which the Bible says must come out of my mouth. You are God. Psalms 82:6 states the following: "Ye are gods and all of you, children of the Most High." After all that I just said you'd think that I must now be entering into a Super Paranoid mode. And I am. As I always told Paul my best friend in college. "The easiest way to avoid becoming paranoid is to make sure that people always have a good reason to talk about you." But as for fearing you, I do and I don't. Those of you who'd use my statements to harm me because you think you are God, you I fear. But you are delusional if you think I am going to hide from you.
My God is greater than your god. And my God is Love and I must Love Him with all my heart, mind, body and soul. And in order to do that, I must first get to know Him. Although He can and often does speak through the wind, the television, and the radio. He speaks clearest through the Bible, to me at least. And in the final analysis, Jesus who said that He and God and I are one, is the only one whose wings are big enough to unite the world.
In Jamaica they speak of One Love. Brothers here in America end their calls with the word One and its been proven that every piece of a broken hologram can reproduce the whole hologram.
We are One. Like it or not. Deny it all you want. Bitch moan groan and complain til you die about the coming one world government, but it will happen. It has to and as the anti-Christ has come and gone it will be under the auspices of the Christ. It's inevitable. The only people I hear crying about the one world government are supposed Christians who actually backed the anti-Christ and spurred on his slow rise to power. And they stood by him until death, literally lining up for days to stand by his casket as he lay in State in the Rotunda of the Capitol Building of the United States of America.
As much as I hate to admit it, Islam has America pegged properly. Although our people are each one as good as any on earth, under the Republicans especially while under Reagan we did represent the Great Satan. This is not anti-Americanism, it is a fact that many of those in the media, in the government and elsewhere actually do worship a stone owl at the Bohemian Grove in California. Do a Google search for Bohemian Grove or search for David Icke at MegaVideo. He tells it like it is. The stock market crash is nothing compared to the child sacrifice and other equally nefarious deeds that are done under the guise of "the cremation of care" wherein these elites sacrifice someone (supposedly in effigy, but then why go through all the trouble of performing the ritual in such secrecy especially if the goal is to relieve yourself of all your worries).
I must thank Alex Jones for his bravery and courage under fire. Of course the right wing will do one of two things call this quackery or simply ignore it. But I am under a sacred obligation to exposed the facts as I see them. Jesus said many things but pertinent to this post is this. What you see is the secret chambers, that ye shout on the rooftops. Todays rooftop is the internet and Lisa Miller has provided the ladder I only hope I can climb to the top before someone from the Bohemian Grove gets the whole thing more twisted than they obviously already have.
President Bush was at the Bohemian Grove. Yet, another of the things Jesus said was this. You cannot have to masters for either you will love one and hate the other or you will cling to one and despise the other. In other words you cannot love God and Satan. That is unless and until you realize that we are all one, that God is Love and that there is nothing but God. Omnupotent, Omnicient, and All Merciful. Let's take the jump into hyperspace, forgive and forget stop the fighting and get on with saving the planet.
"Obama's own use of religious rhetoric belies his liberal positions on abortion and traditional marriage, Staver says, positions that 'religious conservatives believe will threaten their freedom.' The people who believe Obama is the Antichrist are perhaps jumping to conclusions, but they're not nuts: 'They are expressing a concern and a fear that is widely shared,' Staver says."
No dice, Lisa Miller - I know journalistic usage - that's YOUR voice there, saying those people are "not nuts," not Mat Staver's voice. I cannot see where your statement that these folks are "perhaps jumping to conclusions, but they're not nuts" is a paraphrase of the Staver quotes.
And as for the headline, "Is Obama the Antichrist?" - if that question appears anywhere - in a head or in the body text of an article, then you are seriously postulating - putting forth for speculation - that that statement might be true. This is our president you are speculating upon, and Newsweek needs to run a clarification, because you people are playing with fire.
I realize that Miller had no part in composing that headline, and I'll bet she considers that she was burned by whatever dumbass editor wrote that head, but she is hardly blameless herself, and the fact that TWO people at Newsweek, rather than just one, showed such poor judgment is hardly comforting.
