Our top picks for the week

Rent “Superbad,” last summer’s hit movie starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera as two dweeby high-school buddies making one last desperate attempt to hook up with a girl before they graduate. This teen-comedy classic is just too much fun.

Surf exlibris.typepad.com and click on “Russian Reading Challenge 2008” in the right-hand column. Whether you’ve been on page 60 of “War and Peace” since 1989, or you’ve worked your way through Dostoevsky and Tolstoy and are ready to move onto Gogol, this blog will help you make it happen.

Hear “Live Earth: The Concerts for a Climate in Crisis,” a 15-song CD package of performances from artists at the global Live Earth concerts in July. The package also includes two DVDs, one with short films, including a documentary about the making of Live Earth ($19.59; amazon.com).

Read “Gallop!” by Rufus Butler Seder ($12.95). Through a process called Scanimation, this amusing picture book makes horses gallop, dogs run and eagles soar as you and your children turn the pages.

Go to Austin for the annual Trail of Lights festival, a display of 43 holiday scenes composed of almost 300,000 lights. The festival kicks off Dec. 9 with a parade and the grand opening of the mile-long trail. (Through Dec. 23; for more info see ci.austin.tx.us/tol.)
