Instead of hiding from your aunt’s optical zoom this holiday season, why not flaunt what you’ve got? Three pros offer tips for looking great in family photos.
Practice makes perfect. Try out different expressions in the privacy of your bathroom mirror, says Jonathan Becker, a contributing photographer for Vanity Fair. If you know what works best, then you’ll look confident—and natural— in pictures.
Cover your assets. Wear clothes designed for standing and sitting, says Leslie Snyder, a Denver-based stylist. Too often, women don tight outfits that result in unflattering bulges or reveal too much cleavage when they sit down.
Strike a pose. Leaning against a doorway or wall can elongate your figure. Facing the camera obliquely with your feet in a loose T shape can flatter your curves.
More is better. With digital cameras, says Joe Greene, a Boston photographer, there’s no excuse not to take at least two shots. If the photographer can’t be trusted to trash pictures of people eating or picking their ears, then maybe you shouldn’t be partying with them in the first place.
