FROM NEWSWEEK'S INTERNATIONAL EDITIONS

Mysterious Beasts, Lurking
Obsession with mysterious or unidentified animals, also known as cryptids, is nothing new. Fascination with Scotland's Loch Ness dates back to the eighteenth century. The lumpy beast that recently washed up on a New York beach has revived the question: what else lurks beneath? Go online to view photos of all kinds of cyptids, from a coelacanth (a prehistoric-looking fish) to the Yeti (the abominable snowman). Repulsive and scary, but almost impossible to look away from.
